How to get a chimney brush unstuck?

so the way we clean are chimney is we have a chimney brush attached to a rope with a heavy wrench on the opposite side you throw the wrench down and pull the rope but the rope snaped and we dont know how to get out the brush we tried to take a rod and jam it through but it wont work what else can you do?
