Will an aluminum can in the fireplace cut down creosote in the chimney?

I too have heard this. Some people swear by it. I buy cleaning sticks that are for this purpose, and I do believe aluminum is one of the ingredients, so an aluminum can may not be totally useless. Keep in mind, though, that nothing will take the place of an occasional chimney cleaning.
