Is it possible to get carbon monoxide poisoning from a wood-burning stove?

I have an oil stove in the kitchen for all my cooking and hot water needs, and a wood-burner in the sitting room. Somebody has told me that I could be suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning, but I have the chimney to the fire cleaned every year, and have no gas, so I am wondering whether this is correct?
